TEACHING

“Eliot has been teaching my seven-year-old son piano for over 2 years. In addition to piano, my son started learning ukulele a few months ago. With both the piano and ukulele, Eliot is also providing vocal coaching. He keeps my son engaged and patiently answers any questions he may have. I appreciate the classic approach to learning, which focuses on a more structured teaching style. My son is able to easily read sheet music and quickly identify note names. Eliot encourages creativity by having impromptu jam sessions. With what Eliot has taught him, my son is able to write music and play pieces by ear. Focusing on proper technique to instill good habits in playing piano and string instruments is another thing that Eliot is excellent at. Eliot is also a great communicator, is always on time, and is very reliable and hard-working. I highly recommend Eliot as he is a gifted musician but is also a great mentor and inspires his students to do their best.”

-Karina Mazur-Hicks, Ojai

“Eliot is the first person I would call for lessons for literally any age. As a family care specialist/nanny i’ve seen him work with four separate families and have yet to hear anything but overwhelming positivity and praise.”

-Natalie Elizabeth, Ojai

“Studying songwriting is the best thing I’ve done for me… so nourishing, so fulfilling. I don’t think I’d be in as good a headspace or heartspace without it. I’m sure in fact I’d still be grappling with depression. Eliot’s an incredibly patient teacher and so well-suited for the task.”

—Jo Abellera, Meiners Oaks

The best motivator to learn music is by playing songs you create with your peers to perform for your community. At ORRA, musicians are grouped by age and experience into bands that write original material and learn to perform it onstage. All instrumentalists and singers are welcome to take part in the fun and rewarding process of sculpting songs out of thin air as a band. This weekly activity is available to Ojai locals without ever having to leave the valley!

About the instructor:

Eliot has released 9 albums, toured internationally and earned a degree in composition and performance from the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts, one of the top private music colleges in the country. Eliot has led bands in a variety of styles including rock, Americana and experimental jazz live and in the recording studio.

As a teacher, Eliot is passionate about getting his students to express themselves creatively by composing their own music and becoming self-motivated to level up their playing abilities in order to be able to perform the songs they write with style!
